It must have come as quite a shock for Bob Huggins' crew from WVU to be humbled by Mick Cronin's lowly (LOL) Bearcats to the tune of 62-39. West Virginia entered the game 15-5, with a 4-3 record in the Big East. You can almost bet the Mountaineers were counting on walking out of the Coliseum in Morgantown 16-5, 5-3 in the Big East. But, as Huggins, with great honesty, admitted, the 'Cats outplayed them in every aspect of the game. If not for poor play against Connecticut and Seton Hall, the 'Cats are 12-9 overall, and 7-2 in the Big East. I know, I know, wishful thinking, but a fan can dream, right?
No telling where these teams will be in a month, but two thing are true: UC is already ahead of where I thought they'd be at this point in the season, and it's better for Huggins and the Mountaineers to have this kind of wake-up call now rather than in a month, when the pressure will start to be turned on to make the field of 65.
